Raynor Massage
Raynor Naturopathic Massage is a world-renowned, powerful and extremely effective form of deep tissue and holistic therapy known for its ability to release deep-seated tension and restore balance. It was developed by Brandon Raynor, a Canadian born massage therapist now living in Australia, based on over thirty years practicing massage and studying many different techniques used throughout the world.
The massage technique and philosophy draws on Eastern philosophies and practices of massage, combining techniques such as Shiatsu, Ayurvedic massage, Thai massage, Lomi Lomi, and Yoga breathing. It places special emphasis on key areas of the body often overlooked by conventional massage therapists including the hips, sacrum, abdomen, hands, feet and head. These areas tend to hold a lot of residual tension, stagnation and block the flow of our life force (which is called ‘chi’ or ‘prana’). By addressing these areas, tension can be released, benefiting both the physical body and the overall well-being of the client.
Most tension in the body forms in bands, similar to the energy systems in Eastern philosophy—such as Meridians in Chinese massage, Sen lines in Thai massage, and Nadis in Ayurvedic massage. While these systems differ slightly, they share the common concept of energy channels that can become blocked. In Western anatomy, these bands can be understood as interconnected structures of muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones, and fascia that work together for posture and movement. In Raynor Massage, these bands are seen as pathways of tension that, when blocked, can lead to discomfort and imbalance.
The tension a therapist can feel as they work along these bands can result from underuse, overuse, injury or emotional stress that we hold in muscles. This tension can put pressure on nerves or result in a buildup of toxins, such as lactic acid and other waste products, that can cause health problems and complicate other pathologies. During a Raynor massage session, the therapist uses their hands, elbows, forearms and wooden tools to apply pressure to specific points on the body, targeting areas of tension and promoting relaxation. This deep pressure helps to release ‘knots’ and ‘adhesions’ in the muscles, allowing for improved blood circulation and increased range of motion. It can help improve flexibility, posture, and overall well-being.
Discomfort and pain are the body's way of letting you know something is wrong. Nerve endings send signals to the brain to prompt action. Acute pain, like that from stubbing a toe, may be short-lived but registers well enough that we avoid doing it again, but discomfort caused by tension in the body, whether from stress or the aftereffects of an injury, can keep the brain distracted and unable to function at its full potential for a long time. This can ultimately impact your mood and day to day life and often results in the suppression (or blocking) of beneficial feelings such as joy and wellbeing, and the inability to let go (or blocking the release) of less desirable emotions and frustrations.
A vital part of Raynor Massage is accepting that tension in the body can be caused by emotional, mental or stress related issues, and if this such a blockage occurs, it impedes the flow of chi or prana, and results in areas of muscle tightness, and the bones in the skeletal structure may be forced out of alignment. By identifying and eliminating these blockages, it works to release both physical and emotional tension, helping clients feel lighter, more balanced, and restored.
By working on both the physical and emotional levels, this massage therapy can help restore balance and harmony within the body, leaving you feeling lighter, revitalised, and more physically aligned.
